Harvest technology on parade

A steamy parade is being promised for this year's Victorian heritage celebrations in Oamaru next month with the North Otago Vintage Machinery Club bringing out traction engines for the event.

The Meridian Energy grand street parade on November 15 will involve up to 40 corporate and community groups.

The theme of this year's celebrations, the Victorian wheel, could not be more appropriate for the club.

Mr Clark said members would be busy at Clark's Mill near Maheno in the week leading up to the celebrations, demonstrating harvest technology to the district's school pupils.

They expect to see about 1000 children.

The parade will follow a loop beginning at the Tyne St railways goods yard, on the corner of Tyne and Wansbeck Sts, into Itchen St and around the corner to lower Thames Street.

It will then return to the goods yards starting point.
