Otago Girls' High School won the ASB 2013 Stage Challenge its ''breathtaking'' performance of Our-tearoa, the second consecutive year it has won the event.
The group's performance took Dunedin's Edgar Centre audience on a museum tour, celebrating Aotearoa's cultural diversity and innovative spirit. It highlighted the beauty of untouched New Zealand and featured the arrival of the Maori, followed by the colonists.
The performance also recognised Kiwi ingenuity and New Zealanders' status as world-famous farmers.
Production judge Vicky Crawford said said she could not stop watching the show.
''It was a very polished performance; obviously, a team effort.''
OGHS principal Linda Miller was ''absolutely delighted'' with the result, especially because the school had managed to win the competition two years in a row.
''There's been a huge amount of hard work go into putting the show together. It's reward for a huge amount of effort.''
Bayfield High School was runner-up with its performance of Ring a Ring a Rosy, about a young girl who, in her dream, is pulled back in time by the Dream Catcher, who teaches her the history and real message of the nursery rhyme Ring a Ring a Rosy.
South Otago High School was third, with its show The Fiordland Monorail. It delved deep into the impact the building of a monorail in Fiordland would have on the local community.
