A gas line struck by a contractor in central Dunedin this morning is back in service.
The lateral line was hit in Great King St, between St Andrew St and Hanover St, about 11.20am, a Dunedin City Council spokesman said.
Gas was restored to affected properties about 2pm.
No one was injured in the incident.
Contractors have been working on an upgrade in the central city, which includes revamping George St.
The gas was turned off to allow the line to be repaired.
"We will follow up with our contractor to understand what happened and ensure they are taking all necessary precautions to minimise risks," the council spokesman said.
Four fire appliances attended the incident, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said.
Police were also at the scene this morning.
