Columba promoted to top grade after beating South Pac

Columba College senior A has earned a spot in premier A after beating South Pac 67-41 in a promotion-relegation game last night.

The school team finished at the top of premier B at the end of round one while South Pac was at the bottom of premier A.

The teams will swap grades for the start of round two this week.

Columba was ahead at the end of each quarter and built its lead throughout the game.

In the third period, it scored 10 unanswered goals.

Its attacking players connected well down the court while the team picked up ball defensively.

Columba goal keep Emilie Nicholson caused trouble for South Pac, tipping the ball away and nabbing intercepts.

Most impressive was her ability to block a shot and gain possession, which she achieved at least three times during the game.

Down the other end, goal shoot Brenna Lyons was confident under the hoop and scored 43 goals from 51 attempts at 84%.

She combined well with Tessa Milton and Lucy Morrison, who had stints at goal attack.

The game was relatively close at halftime with six goals separating the teams.

South Pac goal keep Hanna Ingram got her hands to the ball early on, while goal shoot Stacey Hopwood held space nicely in the circle.

Their team kept the score close in the early stages of the game but Columba was able to push ahead.

South Pac will move down to premier B.

The other premier A/B game was between Taieri Netball Club A and College Red.

College won 60-23 and will move up to premier A.

College was second in premier B and Taieri was second-last in premier A.
