A Queenstown man accused of kicking an Australian man in the head in the resort two weeks ago was convicted yesterday and will be sentenced next month.
In the Queenstown district Court yesterday, Taane John Pollard-Gray (19) was remanded on bail until December 17 on two charges of assault and one of assault with intent to injure.
On November 1, he approached one of 10 university students visiting from Australia and kicked him several times in the head while he was on the ground, prosecutor Sergeant Ian Collin said.
Pollard-Gray then approached a second victim and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, before punching a third man in the side of the face.
As a result, the Australian man required medical treatment after experiencing numbness and swelling to his head and face.
When arrested, he told police he had been in a bad mood with his partner and was aware he could have seriously injured the men.
Pollard-Gray was convicted and remanded to December 17 on separate charges of drink-driving (544mcg), driving while forbidden and giving false details to police.
$400 donation
Amanda Jane Nicolls (41) was discharged without conviction on a charge of possessing an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence of bodily injury or threat of violence.
She was ordered to make a $400 donation to the Salvation Army.

• Leon Rowles (31), kitchen hand, of Hawea Flat, possessing MDMA and cannabis resin, Wanaka, July 21, six months' home detention, 200 hours' community work, alcohol and drug counselling ordered.
• Mathew Hirini Campbell (35), of Auckland, disorderly behaviour, Isle St, June 11, two months' prison.
• Eduardo Arajo-Lima (34), a Brazilian national, 80 hours' community work and fined $500 for stealing from his employers, Night 'n Day Queenstown, an amount between $500 and $1000.
