Reaching the finals of the World Stadium Awards was an "outstanding achievement", Forsyth Barr Stadium project delivery team chairman Stewart Barnett said.
Dunedin's stadium was shortlisted as one of three finalists in two categories of the competition held in Doha, Qatar, earlier this month, which attracted nominations from more than 100 stadiums in five categories.
The categories were engineering excellence in stadium development, and the world's most iconic and culturally significant stadium.
Mr Barnett said the judging panel expressed favourable comments about Dunedin's stadium nominations, recognising that to be a finalist in the international forum was an exceptional achievement for those involved in the project.
"Being a finalist against other stadia with unlimited project resources was a major challenge in the judging of our stadium with its tightly controlled budget."
Considering Dunedin's location and project restraints, those involved were "punching well above our weight", Mr Barnett said.
"It's an outstanding achievement of which all of New Zealand should be proud."
