Forsyth Barr Stadium won an excellence award in the tourism and leisure category at the 2012 Property Council New Zealand Industry Awards in Auckland last night.
The judges said achieving a natural grass playing surface under a fixed and transparent roof was a "world-first".
The $224.4 million stadium provided "certainty for protection from the weather disruption that hampered traditional sporting arenas," the judges said.
