Construction on the site started in September and a "sod ceremony" was held yesterday to celebrate progress.
Provincial development unit head Robert Pigou (left), developers Scott O'Donnell and Geoff Thompson, flanking Invercargill Mayor Sir Tim Shadbolt were part of the blessing ceremony.
Mr O’Donnell said the event was great opportunity to have all the "major players" together for the first time.
"It is our way of saying thank you."
He said it was a great feeling to see the cranes on site.
"It is like they say ... A real town has construction cranes and jet planes — we’ve got both."
