The Dunedin Art Show is back, returning for the Opening Night on the 19th of November at the More FM Arena, The Edgar Centre at 7:30pm. Always a huge hit with the Otago public, this is a huge, annual art event in the Dunedin calendar. You do not want to miss-out on what is on offer at this year’s show so, pencil in the date! Come and be inspired at Otago’s one and only art extravaganza! Back, bigger and better than ever! With thousands of artworks and 100’s of artists, all under one roof! As their motto says, “we have art for everyone!”
A ticket to the exclusive Opening Night guarantees you to be the first in line to view and buy original quality artworks, from established and emerging New Zealand artists. Enjoy a glass of wine, canapes and a great selection of artisan cheeseboards whilst you browse a diverse range of art. Later in the night the Dunedin Casino Award winner will be announced. Damian Newell from The Breeze will be there in person to select his favourite panel artist for this award. Live music will be play setting the ambience as guests mix and mingle with artists. This gives guests the invaluable opportunity to learn about the art they are purchasing from the artists themselves. Everyone attending will also have the chance to vote for their favourite artwork from the top-ten selling artists of 2019, in the Lawson’s Dry Hills People’s Choice Award.
All art is for sale and can be taken home with you after purchase, a free wrapping service is available at the show to protect your precious artwork. Courier services are also available. As this is a cash and carry art show, as an artwork sells new works are hung in their place for sale, making no day or night at The Dunedin Art Show ever the same!
The show days, running from the 20-22nd of November also include an opportunity for the public to get involved with their own creativity. Art workshops are available to sign up for, run on-site by Southland Education. This year there are the options of Drawing Discovery with artist Nancy McLennan Hughes or Wonderful Watercolour with artist Ron Esplin. Why not even sign up for both? You’ll find all the information for these classes at www.southlandeducation.org.nz You can also book in your spot to hear fine arts photographer, Jayne Fletcher’s Artist Talk. She will be sharing her own journey in the arts world and the advice that has helped pave out her own successful arts career.
