Boat picks up kite-surfer

A kite-surfer spotted by a member of the public apparently struggling in Lake Wakatipu yesterday afternoon was picked up by a Dart River Safaris jet-boat near Kinloch.

Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said police were called about 2pm after the kite-surfer was sighted about 100m offshore, separated from the kite.

The kite surfer was picked up by the Dart River Safaris boat about 2pm with help from a privately owned jet-boat and "everything was good", he said.

Reports did not indicate whether the kite surfer was actually in trouble, Sgt Newell said.

Dart River Safaris could not be contacted by the Otago Daily Times yesterday.
