A man is in hospital with "non life-threatening injuries'' following an assault in Auckland's Swanson Street this morning.
Early reports said a machete or knife was used.
One officer at the scene said a fight "got out of hand.''
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said the injured man was assaulted by a group of people at about 5am.
She has appealed for any witnesses to contact Auckland CIB.
