Vessel towed to port after losing power off Dunedin coast

A vessel has been towed to Port Chalmers after after it lost power off the coast near Dunedin, sparking a call for help to nearby boats.

A police spokeswoman said they received word about 11.40am of the outboard motor powered craft having lost power about 150m off the coast near Seacliff, north of Dunedin.

There was no immediate threat to those on board, she said.

Nearby vessels were asked to assist via Maritime Radio before the Otago Harbour Pilot came to the rescue and towed the boat back to Port Chalmers.
