Former All Black Justin Marshall, former Wallaby Michael Brial and former Highlander Kelvin Middleton christened the new soccer/rugby goal posts at the Remarkables Primary School on Friday.

The school has two goal posts - with the second set yet to be erected on the upper playing field of the Frankton site - thanks to a grant from First Sovereign Trust and funds raised by the Remarkables Parents Association.

Principal Debbie Dickson said she was "thrilled".

"[They] are a great addition to school resources and we look forward to both the [pupils] and the wider community getting a lot of use out of them, particularly with 2011 being such a big year for rugby in New Zealand."

Friday's kick-off coincided with the announcement of the RPA's next fundraiser - a rugby-themed event dubbed "Remarkables - Game On", on September 24.

RPA chairwoman Tracey Pederson said the event would be held in the school hall which would be transformed into "rugby clubrooms" for the evening, courtesy of HQ New Zealand, during which the All Blacks v France RWC game would be broadcast live.

There will also be live entertainment by Groova, with food and drinks. All members of the community are invited to attend. Tickets are $25 each. All funds raised will go towards resources for the library and information centre.
