Fire service personnel, police and locals got together on Saturday morning to save a yacht found close to sinking at the fisherman's wharf at Careys Bay.
Port Chalmers Chief Fire Officer Stephen Hill said passers-by noticed the vessel had taken on water about 8.30am.
The owner was understood to be away on business, and a portable pump "and a couple of locals" were commissioned to deal with the problem.
The vessel was shifted to a repair wharf, where it was safely moored later in the day.
