Steampunk word spread to Tauranga

They might not have won but the League of Victorian Imagineers spread the word about Oamaru and the steampunk phenomenon at the recent TrustPower national community awards.

Iain Clark and Helen Jansen travelled to Tauranga to represent the group, after it won the supreme award in the Oamaru community awards.

People at the function were keen to hear more about Steampunk.

"Many have added Oamaru to their list of `must see' places and our costumes were much commented on," Mr Clark said.

Geoff Davis and Andrew Robinson attended the Tauranga event on behalf of the Palmerston Volunteer Fire Brigade, which won the Waihemo award supreme award.

The overall award was won by the Bay of Plenty Vintage Railway Trust.
