Dunedin motorway smash stalls traffic

Part of Dunedin's southern motorway was brought to standstill this evening after a car crashed into a barrier near Fairfield.

Traffic on the northbound lanes of the motorway was halted and diversions put in place after the crash, which occurred just before 7pm.

Earlier reports suggested up to seven cars had been involved with the collision, but it appeared the road became blocked after several other motorists stopped to help the driver of the crashed vehicle.

''Nobody was injured and a tow is being arranged,'' a police spokeswoman said.
