Rescuers were called after two kayakers got into trouble off the Dunedin coast this afternoon.
The pair got stuck on Bird Island, near Ocean Grove, prompting a callout for the St Kilda Inflatable Rescue Boat.
But a police spokeswoman said after officers were called at 2.18pm, the kayakers made it back to Smaills Beach under their own steam, and the Search and Rescue and IRB teams were stood down.
''All appear to be well,'' she said.
