A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the blaze was extinguished just after 6am yesterday by crew on a single appliance from Lookout Point Station.
Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said police were treating the fire as suspicious and were making inquiries to find the vehicle's owner.
