At 16, Ethan was believed to be the youngest person to complete the sixth annual programme, which taught ''a raft of skills'' at Highlands Motorsport Park, programme leader and Central Otago District Council roading engineer Andy Bartlett said.
Twenty-five people aged 16-26 were completing the two-day programme, which included sessions on skid pan control, winter driving and tyre changing.
The programme had ''minimal theory'' and focused on practical experience, Mr Bartlett said.
''It's a fantastic opportunity for young drivers to practise skills, not thrills.''
Ethan, who works for Best Removals and gained his learner's licence about six months ago, said he was looking forward to ''learning how to drive better'' through the programme.
Participants in the programme are sponsored by their employers.
The programme ends on Saturday.
