It will be another six months before a large wastewater pipe crossing the Water of Leith is permanently repaired.

The pipe in Malvern St was damaged during the floods earlier this month and work on a temporary fix is expected to finish today The pipe was repaired only last year, after it was damaged in the 2015 floods, and the temporary welding work will  cost  up to $4000.

Dunedin City Council network contracts manager William Clifford said the pipe would be repaired at the same time work was done on the Malvern St bridge, which would take about six months.

Temporary traffic lights installed for the work  would  be removed today, Mr Clifford said.

More work was needed further down Malvern St next week, which involved more traffic management, he said.

As the type of work needed on  the pipe had not been fully assessed, repair costs were still be be confirmed, he said.tim.miller@odt.co.nz
