"An eclectic collection of country songs with a soft rock feel" is how upcoming Dunedin based band Ash and the Matadors describe their music, which will be heard live at Dux de Lux, tomorrow.

Vocalist-guitarist-keyboardist Ash Officer and bass player Spencer Morgan have played together since high school, but formed the band with lead guitarist Jared Smith and drummer Simon Barr in early 2009.

Manager Verity Kerr said this week Ash and The Matadors had risen quickly in the Dunedin music scene since, due to their "polished performance and universal appeal".

Their Queenstown debut was a hit when they played for the private afterparty of the Restaurant Association of New Zealand's inaugural Remarkable Awards, in September.

Dux de Lux will be their first free public gig in the resort, featuring songs from their new six-track EP, The Mansion Tapes.

Ash and the Matadors, with Jo Little, Dux de Lux, tomorrow, 9pm.

Free entry.
