One child has been injured after a collision between a car and school bus in Queenstown this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said they were called to the crash on Frankton Rd between Sugar lane and Yewlett Crescent at 3.49pm.

A child on the school bus was transported to hospital by ambulance from the scene with minor injuries.

Police said the remaining occupants of the bus had been transferred to another bus and were continuing to their destination.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Rav4, received moderate injuries.

There was a backlog of traffic in the area and motorists should continue to expect delays.

Police said just before 6pm they were working to open up one lane to get traffic flowing.

In the meantime, the public were asked to be patient.

The Serious Crash Unit was at the scene.

NZTA has warned motorists of delays on Frankton Rd near the intersection with Marina Drive.
