More than 22,000 overseas-based student loan borrowers on a repayment holiday have been reminded by IRD that have a payment to make by September 30.
"A number of them will know this, but we're aware others need reminding," IRD assistance group manager Charles Ronaldson said.
The repayment holiday has been available since 2007 to students, giving them an opportunity for a three-year break from payments. It coincided with an amnesty offered to other borrowers whose accounts were in debt.
IRD is contacting borrowers to remind them.
"However, we don't have current contact details for all of them so we'd ask family or friends back here to remind them or get them to check our website," Mr Ronaldson said.
Borrowers who did not keep their account up to date and meet their repayment obligations faced interest or penalty payments.
