"And remember it is better to pretend being drunk than actually being drunk," visiting teacher Paul Willis told a group of Dunedin drama enthusiasts yesterday.

Mr Willis, who is head of drama at Birkenhead College in Auckland, worked as a professional actor, mime and clown for more than 20 years.
Mime was a "special kind of magic" that allowed the artist to communicate directly with the audience through gestures and facial movement.
By keeping your feet together and then shifting your balance from side-to-side you could convey the appearance of an extremely drunk person trying to walk - without the side-effects of excessive alcohol consumption.
More than 90 pupils attended the three workshops held at King Edward Court.
