Notorious fugitive "Billy the Hunted One" has been remanded without plea for the seventh time.
William Alexander Stewart faces about 70 charges arising from his months on the run from police in rural Canterbury.
The 48-year-old was arrested in Mayfield and waited 11 weeks, through a series of remands in custody and in handcuffs, while a lawyer was appointed.
The defence counsel now appointed, Glenn Henderson, asked for a further two-week remand when Stewart appeared in the Christchurch District Court before Judge Brian Callaghan today, Christchurch News website reported.
He had earlier sought remands to deal with the number of charges and the large amount of material provided by the police, and is now seeking discussions with the police officer in charge of the case.
Judge Callaghan granted another custody remand to October 5 for Stewart, who styled himself Billy the Hunted One during his months as a fugitive.
