Woman who had sex with boy seeking name suppression

An appeal to keep a name suppression order in place has been filed by a 35-year-old Christchurch woman who has admitted having sex with a 15-year-old boy.

The papers were filed this morning by defence counsel Gilly Ferguson, ahead of the 5pm deadline set on Friday by Christchurch District Court Judge Stephen Erber.

That means name suppression remains until the appeal is heard in the High Court, which does not resume until February 5.

Judge Erber refused suppression on Friday when the woman pleaded guilty, but continued it to allow the appeal to be heard.

The woman is due to be sentenced in the district court on March 6.
