Woman jailed over shooting 'prank'

A drug-addled woman who injured her neighbour during "prank" drive-by shooting has been jailed for 12 months.

Sharlene Anne Cave, 34, unemployed, was sentenced at Hamilton District Court yesterday after admitting careless use of a firearm causing bodily injury, The Waikato Times reported.

The court was told after spending a night in January consuming alcohol and methamphetamine, Cave loaded a friend's gun and fired at her 51-year-old neighbour's Frankton home from a car.

The victim, who was asleep, was hit in the left shoulder while a second bullet struck the headboard of his bed.

Defence counsel David Allan said Cave's actions were a "drug induced silly prank that went horribly wrong".
