Victim's mother screams at murder accused

The mother of Jordan Herewini screamed obscenities at the man accused of murdering her son as he entered the dock in Rotorua District Court.

Fifteen-year-old Jordan was run down on the front lawn of his Murupara home on January 27, and died at the scene.

A group of alleged gang members have been arrested and charged with a number of offences in the township on the same day. One of them, Quentin Duane Pukeroa, has been charged with murdering the teenager.

Pukeroa and 11 of his associates appeared for a pre-depositions hearing yesterday when the verbal fight erupted between the victim's mother and two female friends and people in court supporting Pukeroa.

She cried and screamed at Pukeroa as one of her friends sat shaking from head to toe.

She screamed that he was a "murderer" who had killed a "little boy" as others yelled to her that he wasn't a murderer.

Judge Phillip Cooper asked those yelling to leave the court room.

"There will be no further outbursts interfering with the court process," he said.

Crown prosecutor Fletcher Pilditch requested more time to disclose information to the 12 lawyers representing the group.

Pre-depositions were adjourned to May 14 and depositions set down for two weeks from July 6.

Pukeroa, Kingi Gemmell, Neville Duff and Clayton Fox were all remanded in custody until April 15 for a bail hearing.

The rest of those charged are to be back in court for the depositions hearing.
