Former broadcaster Tony Veitch is to appear in Auckland District Court today, prompting media speculation that he has succeeded in a plea bargain on the assault charges he faces against former girlfriend Kristin Dunne-Powell.
The former TVNZ and Radio Sport host was previously scheduled to appear at a depositions hearing next Monday, to decide if there was sufficient evidence for him to stand trial.
He has denied six counts of assaulting Ms Dunne-Powell and one of injuring her with reckless disregard, between 2002 and 2006.
Court staff told the Stuff website they had been directed by the judge looking after the matter to not confirm to media whether a deal had been reached, saying only it would be "brought on".
The case was sparked by claims in July last year, that the former broadcaster assaulted Ms Dunne-Powell and paid her compensation.
Veitch stepped down from his jobs at TVNZ and The Radio Network and in a press conference admitted to "lashing out" against Dunne-Powell.
