Two people were seriously injured after a light plane crashed yesterday afternoon.
Police said emergency services were called to a small private airstrip in Pukekohe about 2pm yesterday where a plane classed as a microlight had crashed.
The two occupants, both experienced pilots aged 61 and 63, were taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
Police said the microlight appeared to have crashed while landing, but the cause was yet to be identified.
Weather conditions were fine and the light plane was professionally constructed, police said.
Civil Aviation Authority were advised and would follow-up with the pilot and passenger.
The owner of the microlight was among friends and flying enthusiasts at the scene when the crash happened.
