The two teenagers who died when their speeding car crashed into a stream in the Whangarei suburb of Kensington on Saturday have been named by police.
They were Richard Adams-Simpson, 19, of Whangarei and Christopher Bruce Wallace, also 19, of Waiotira.
They died at the scene when their car crashed shortly before midnight after the driver lost control on a bend.
The car landed upside down in the stream.
A third man, aged 20, was taken to Whangarei Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said they were keen to hear from anyone who saw a gold 1990 Mazda 626 driving around Whangarei, and possibly near the intersection of SH1 and Mangapai Road, just before the accident.
The car was seen speeding and overtaking vehicles just before it crashed, police said.
Another teenager died in a crash near the same area last year and speed was believed to be a factor.
Northland road policing manager Inspector Clifford Paxton said motorists should treat the road with caution and drive to the conditions.
"Some drivers are not behaving in a safe and considerate manner and are placing themselves and others at risk," he said.
