A teenage drink driver who killed a seven-month pregnant Levin woman has been jailed for more than two years.
Judge Gerard Lynch sentenced Isaiah Joel Kokiri, 18, to two years and one month in jail on charges of dangerous driving causing death and injury when he appeared in Palmerston North District Court yesterday, the Manawatu Standard reported.
Kokiri was almost three times the legal blood-alcohol limit for a driver aged under 20 when his Subaru crashed into a Honda Civic driven by Ann-Maree Hardiman, 42, in November last year.
Ms Hardiman, who had a 2-year-old daughter, was on her way home from a Gin Wigmore concert in Palmerston North and died at the scene with her unborn child Siobina.
Her passenger Sue Sinclair, also 42, sustained cracked ribs and bruising to her upper body and pelvis.
