The Bay of Plenty Regional council has closed a sea wall from which a woman fell to her death this month pending a police investigation.
Rotorua woman Atiria Raupita, 36, fell from the wall at the entrance to the Kaituna River, near Maketu, late on January 5 and died despite paramedics attempts to save her.
The council today said today the jetty had been closed to the public while investigations were carried out by police and the council.
"The council is undertaking an investigation into what permanent measures may be needed at the structure. In the interim the structure will be closed to the public," council spokesman Ken Tarboton said.
"We have taken this action with the best interest of the public in mind and we want people will respect this and give us the time required to complete our investigation."
Signs and a barrier would be placed at the jetty.
