The High Court at Christchurch murder trial of Liam James Reid adjourned for the week at 10.30am after only an hour's evidence on its fifth day today.
It heard evidence by video-link from overseas tourists, and it heard further evidence about sightings of the car of Emma Agnew, who 35-year-old Reid is accused of raping and murdering.
The crown is calling evidence from 106 witnesses in the trial, which was due to last four weeks.
However, it has made rapid progress in its first week with a new system of transcribing the evidence as it is given in court using a team of typists.
The system has been in use in the District Court for some time, but until now High Court evidence has been recorded by a single typist sitting in the court room, Christchurch Court News website reported.
Reid denies charges of rape and murder of Miss Agnew, and the rape, sexual violation, robbery and attempted murder of a woman in Dunedin nine days later.
