Mr Guy, 31, was found dead by a passing motorist in the driveway of his home on Aorangi Road, south of Feilding, last Thursday morning.
A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from several gunshot wounds.
Police set up five road checks in the area between 4.30am and 8am today to identify regular road users who may have witnessed something last week.
About 230 motorists were stopped and spoken to and given a leaflet by police.
About 80 were regular users of roads into the area and they were asked whether they drove on the road last Thursday, and if they witnessed anything suspicious then or in recent weeks, central district police communications manager Kim Perks said.
Questionnaires filled in by the regular motorists would now be analysed by police for relevant information.
Searchers would now scour roadsides and a river the farm backed onto to try and find the murder weapon.
The investigation head, Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger, yesterday told NZPA she was "very disappointed" with the response from the public to appeals for information.
She said the number of calls to a special phone line, direct to the investigation team, had been "minimal".
She again urged people to call police with any information that might help the inquiry as police continue to follow up calls, but have no leads into the killing.
On Monday, police said they knew Mr Guy got up early as usual to go milking and drove his ute to the end of his driveway. He stopped and walked around to the front of the ute, and it was then that he was shot and killed.
Police said he was killed by a shotgun but did not know the type or style. They were now seeking the weapon. He left a wife Kylee -- pregnant with a second child due in September -- and two-year-old son.
They described his death as a deliberate act and they believed someone in the community would know what happened.
His parents, Bryan and Jo Guy, said they were at a loss as to why their son was murdered.
"It's really quite bizarre. We have got no idea what's happened or why," Bryan Guy said.
Asked if police believed drugs were related to Mr Guy's murder, Ms Perks said there was no suggestion of a link.
A funeral service for Mr Guy will be held at the Anglican Church in Feilding tomorrow, followed by a private burial at a separate location for close family and friends.
