Police are trying to identify a second body that was retrieved from Fiordland yesterday.
They removed the body after collecting 46-year-old Dunedin woman Lynne Marie Osborne, who fell about 200m to her death on Mitre Peak in the Milford Sounds on Monday.
• Dunedin climber's body recovered.
Hunters reported finding the second body after returning from a wapiti shoot on Monday.
The body of the man was in a sleeping bag beside McDonald Creek, on the south side of Bligh Sound.
The hunters found the body up to two weeks ago, but had no way of notifying authorities, Sergeant Ian Martin of Invercargill police told The Southland Times.
A post-mortem carried out at Southland Hospital is expected to be completed today.
Police had not been told of anyone missing in the area.
Initial indications showed the male was not hunting in the area and had limited equipment.
The death has been reported to the coroner.
It was believed the male was in the location for several weeks, said Detective Sean Cairns, of Invercargill.
Police are looking for any information relating to the deceased man, which might help them with their enquiries. Anyone with any information should contact the Invercargill Police. - By NZPA additional reporting Debbie Porteous.
