A Picton man caught with more than 10,000 child porn images was jailed by Blenheim District Court for 2-1/2 years today.
Stephen George Fry, a 54-year-old service station attendant, had previously pleaded guilty to 10 charges of distributing and 20 charges of possessing objectionable publications.
Fry's offending was aggravated by the age range of the pictured children - from very young to teenaged - and the number of images, crown solicitor Hugh Boyd-Wilson said.
The 54-year-old had been distributing the material since 2005, using several different methods to share his hoard over the internet.
Internal Affairs censorship compliance national manager Steve O'Brien said American investigators had first detected Fry's online activities and passed his details onto their New Zealand counterparts.
"Fry told us he had been careful not to share his image collection with any other internet users but our analysis of his computer told a different story," he said.
