Pair in court over Blenheim supermarket robbery

Two Blenheim men will appear in court today after allegedly smashing their way into a supermarket using a stolen car and stealing cigarettes.
Constable Michelle Stagg, of Blenheim police, said the Mazda Bounty car was stolen in the town while the owner was unloading furniture yesterday morning. Renwick Supervalue was broken into about 10.15pm and $1000 worth of cigarettes taken.

A member of the public saw the offenders leave and called police, who spotted the pair in the stolen vehicle on State Highway 6 heading towards Blenheim. They failed to stop for police, switched off their lights off and turned into a side road where they cut across the footpath, blowing a front tyre, Ms Stagg said. The car came to a halt and the men were arrested.

A 30-year-old vineyard worker was charged with burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, drunk driving, failing to stop and reckless driving. His 42-year-old companion was charged with burglary and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
