One of the men jailed for the murder of a convicted paedophile has lost a bid to have two years chopped off his sentence.
Glen Stinson, 57, was bashed to death with a hammer at a rural property near Foxton in 2007 after a group of acquaintances found him in bed with a young girl.
In the High Court at Palmerston North last year Aubrey Harrison, 28, and Bruce Tamatea, 47, were convicted of Stinson's murder. A 32-year-old woman, who has name suppression, was convicted of manslaughter.
Harrison, who denied the charge, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 12 years
He later dropped an appeal against the conviction but argued that his minimum prison period should have been no higher than 10 years, which was the sentence given to Tamatea, who had admitted the murder charge.
But the Court of Appeal, in a decision released today, disagreed. Justice Robert Chambers said the sentencing judge's assessment of the minimum non-parole period was "spot on".
Stinson was out on bail at the time of his death in Foxton.
He was waiting to be tried for raping a girl under the age of 12 and had served prison time for offences on girls dating back to 1967.
The woman was jailed for three years.
