One person has been killed and two others seriously injured after a crash in Christchurch this afternoon.
A police spokesman said some of the other occupants needed to be cut from vehicles.
Emergency services are at the scene, at the intersection of Main North Rd and Marshlands Rd in Kainga.
Police say the crash, which occurred around 2.30pm, involved two vehicles.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible. Diversions are in place and the road is expected to be closed for the next 2-3 hours.
