A 33-year Napier woman appeared in court this morning charged with assault after a man was found in a crashed car with stab wounds from which he later died.
The woman, who appeared in the dock in Napier District Court, in police issue white overalls, was remanded in custody until Wednesday when she is expected to face more serious charges.
The names of the woman and her alleged 37-year-old victim were suppressed.
Senior Sergeant Fred van Duuren said earlier that police were called to a car that had crashed into a fence in Fife Cres, Napier, about 6pm yesterday.
They found the driver, the sole occupant, had stab wounds to his chest. He was taken to hospital but died late last night.
He said they were still examining the scene and the man's next of kin were still to be informed of his death.
