A man who made headlines when he was allowed to spend time with his girlfriend in police cells has now been convicted of stealing anti-wrinkle cream for her.
Stuart Methven, 23, pleaded guilty in New Plymouth District Court yesterday to shoplifting the two tubes of anti-wrinkle cream, worth $60, from Pak'n Save, The Taranaki Daily News reported.
Methven was last year allowed to spend time in the police cells with girlfriend, Donna McGuigan-Atua, 48, as a reward for handing himself in for earlier offending.
Judge Anna Johns noted yesterday that Methven had an appalling list of convictions but was entitled to credit for an early guilty plea.
Ms McGuigan-Atua sat smiling in the courtroom as her boyfriend was sentenced to 80 hours' community work.
