A man is in intensive care with head injuries after being assaulted in central Wellington early today.
Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard of Wellington police said the 25-year-old victim and two friends were approached by a group of men opposite a carpark on Tory Street.
"A serious assault has then taken place and as a result, the victim has sustained significant head injuries. One of his friends received minor injuries and has been treated in hospital. The third male was unharmed,'' she said.
The injured man was being treated in Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit.
Police were seeking three Pacific Island men over the attack, which occurred between 3am and 4.30am.
