Man pleads insanity over attack on journalist

A 30-year-old man charged with breaking into the home of a journalist and biting off part of his ear has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Leua Antonio Teki, 30, appeared in the High Court at Napier yesterday, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated burglary.

Teki was remanded in custody to appear in the High Court at Wellington on May 11.

The charges followed on attack at the home of Hawke's Bay Today reporter Doug Laing early on March 16, 2007.
