Man in court after Waikanae assault, abduction

A man who sparked a police manhunt across the lower North Island following a break-in, attack and abduction has been arrested.

Billy Jack Anderson, 23, faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping and injuring with intent when he appears in Porirua District Court today.

The charges follow burglary at a house in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast in the early hours of Saturday morning when a man was attacked and a 25-year-old woman taken from the house, police said.

Anderson was arrested about 7pm on Saturday at Reikorangi, Kapiti, Senior Sergeant Alisdair MacMillan told NZPA.

The woman was unharmed.
