Liquor store murderer gets life sentence

The man who shot south Auckland liquor store owner Navtej Singh while robbing the store in 2008 will spend at least 17 years in jail.

Anitelea Chan-Kee was sentenced at the High Court in Auckland today after being found guilty of Mr Singh's murder by a jury earlier this year.

Justice Graham Lang sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years.

Five other accused men involved in the robbery -- Myron Felise, Tino Felise, Eti Filoa, Walter McCarthy and Jason Naseri -- were all found not guilty of murder and manslaughter but have been convicted of aggravated robbery.

Myron Felise was jailed for six ears, Tino Felise for five years, Filoa for four years four months, McCarthy for two years six months and Naseri for six years four months.

Myron Felise must serve a minimum of three years and Naseri three years two months.

Father-of-three Mr Singh was shot in the chest during the June 2008 robbery and died the following day.
