The release conditions for the man dubbed the Beast of Blenheim are due to be decided today, including whether he will be tracked by GPS.

Three members of the Parole Board are meeting at Rolleston Prison in Christchurch to set the rules of release for serial sex offender Stewart Murray Wilson.

The 65-year-old was jailed for 21 years in 1996 for sexual offending against women and girls including rape, indecent assault, stupefying, wilful ill-treatment of a child and bestiality.

He is expected to be continuously tracked by GPS upon his release from prison set for next month.

Wilson must be released despite of being assessed as being at a high risk of reoffending.

Media reports that Wilson could be out of jail days earlier than his September 1 release date because the date fell on a Saturday were incorrect, the Parole Board said today.

Though prisoners were typically released on weekdays, "Corrections can release on a Saturday," Parole Board spokeswoman Sonja de Friez said.

Wilson became eligible for parole in December 2008 but the Parole Board ordered he stay in prison until his final release date of September 1, 2012, saying he was likely to reoffend if released.

He is expected to join others to be monitored by 24 hours a day by GPS devices attached to ankle bracelets under a new programme to crack down on repeat sex offenders.
