A teenage girl appeared in Gisborne District Court today following a string of fires which damaged houses in the northern Hawke's Bay town of Wairoa last week.
A suspicious fire on Wednesday had extensively damaged a house in Kabul St, while two others in McLean St and Marine Parade suffered the same fate on Saturday.
The 17-year-old was arrested on Saturday night and was charged with burglary and arson relating to the fires.
Sergeant Rebecca Pepere of Gisborne police said the girl did not enter a plea in court today and had been remanded in custody to reappear on February 5.
