Further remand for Nth Canterbury murder accused

A North Canterbury man accused of murdering his partner in February, was further remanded for a month at a brief appearance in Rangiora District Court today.

Judge John Strettell remanded 43-year-old Ross Simon Fraser in custody to the same district court on May 20.

Fraser is charged with murdering Joanne Thompson at Waiau, where they lived, on February 15. He was sought by the police across North Canterbury for more than a week before he was arrested back at the couple's home on February 24.

Defence counsel John Brandts-Giesen asked for the further month's remand, during which time a decision on a depositions hearing would be made.

At Fraser's last appearance on March 25, he was remanded in custody for a psychiatric report to be prepared.
