A teenager charged with assaulting a man later found dead may face further charges after his first appearance in court in Tauranga today.
The 19-year-old was charged with assaulting a man whose body was found in his Watling St home in the Tauranga suburb of Gate Pa yesterday. Police said further charges would depend on the outcome of a post mortem in Auckland today.
The name of the middle-aged victim would be released once relatives had been told, police said.
Neighbours told police they had heard a disturbance at the house late last night and police wanted to hear from anyone who may have heard or seen anything in the street overnight.
Police said 26 officers had been working on the case.
